I had seen the article earlier today and had actually intended to share the link with you. While I think the crew could have handled the situation better, I also know flight attendants and how frightened many of them are of what can happen on their flights. The man could have said his prayers before boarding the plane. Presumably that is what his friends did. Perhaps he didn't have time before he boarded the plane, but he should have obeyed the directions of the flight attendants and not ignored her(him).

BernieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3462242975774901312.post-7408871737108395162008-04-18T13:39:00.000-06:002008-04-18T13:39:00.000-06:00Mohtram Ghouse Bhai, ASA Shukrun for sharing the ...Mohtram Ghouse Bhai, ASA

Shukrun for sharing the story and later developments.

Whether Jew or Muslim both would have been wrong to pray at open places within the plain and delay the flight departure, causing inconveniences to all and sundry unnecessarily. Either they should have prayed before boarding or in the plane at their respective seats.

I agree with your approach. In public appearance or contacts, man must be adjustable with the people he/she comes in contact as humanly as possible. It would develop brotherly and friendly feelings in the circle one moves, paving the way to greater and greater understanding till he/she becomes your bosom friend.

In fact it is one of the technique of Dawah Ilallah and Qur'an exhorts every Muslim to be the model of that in Verses 33 and 34 of Surah # 41 Ham Mim Al-Sajdah,

A Muslim should be more conscious of these urgencies than a Christian or a Jew brother.

Shamim SiddiqiMike Ghousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01647894600183489442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3462242975774901312.post-39919623130614475112008-04-18T11:20:00.000-06:002008-04-18T11:20:00.000-06:00POSTED FOR IRFAN TAHIR KHAN:Ignorance from law is ...POSTED FOR IRFAN TAHIR KHAN:

Ignorance from law is no excuse. If the law says that all passengers will be seated before departure, all passengers are supposed to know and follow that. You are right, Mike. Prayers can be delayed until the flight departs, or even interrupted. A few years ago, I was praying Fajr prayer (in congregation) of the open yard of a Pakistani masjid when it started drizzling. The imam immediately said the tasleem and ended the prayer while still reciting the Qur'an.

Why not stop prayer and follow the law when urged to do so. After all, delaying is fair to other passengers.

Irfan

Moderator: Please read the article, it was a Rabbi not the Imam.Mike Ghousehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01647894600183489442noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3462242975774901312.post-55180096261707300212008-04-18T05:34:00.000-06:002008-04-18T05:34:00.000-06:00Good for United Airlines for 3 reasons. (1) For insisting that dozens or scores or hundreds of passengers in the flight and the connecting flights are not to be inconvenienced on the grounds of one person "communing with the Creator". I have absolutely no doubt that the Creator will side with United Airlines. These ignoramuses who wear their religion on their sleeves - whether Muslim, Jewish, Christian or what have you - are doing these things for no other reason than to show to their fellow humans how pious they are.
(2) Secondly, the incident underscored the fact that such assinine behaviour is no monopoly of Muslims! and (3) UA showed its courage and refused to be cowed by possible howls of protest from the Jewish ciricles ('anti-semites', 'holocaust deniers', 'terrorist sympatizers' etc.) Now if this kind of courage seeps into the society and people start taking Israel to task for its brutality against Palestinians, the Creator will really bless UA.Assadiq the Exorcisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02165126312881464076noreply@blogger.com
